Here's a fun way to wrap little candy favors or gifts! I used a stamp, some waxed twine and simple paper bags. I love the idea of stamping the outside with whatever flavor is inside the wrapping. See more details here.

My sister, Lizzy, hosted a rooftop dinner party a few weeks ago. She lives in a high rise where the roof is planted with herbs and native grasses. Our friend, Ansley, brought the most delicious watermelon drink. I brought some pretty napkins and some garden roses and dahlias and Cori brought some gorgeous hydrangeas from her garden.
The menu: Gazpacho (in shot glasses), roasted sweet potatoes, cipollini onions and kale in a chile lime vinaigrette, drunken beans, milk-braised pork, roasted chicken, cabbage slaw, fresh salsa and Mexican rice with crunchy green onions.
Dessert: Vanilla ice-cream with bourbon soaked cherries.
It was delicious and a lovely evening with friends! Summer is fleeting here in the NW and I plan to continue savoring each moment.

Since I started Frolic! back in 2006, each year, I've shared my grandmother's birthday with readers. Grace is my Dad's mom and a super inspiring woman who I often look to for inspiration. Her determination and positive attitude have seen her through many challenges in life including Breast Cancer. People often ask what her secret is. From what I can tell, Grace values hard work, takes care of other people, doesn't fret over problems for too long, and has made a habit of walking everyday.
A few weekends ago, we celebrated her 102nd birthday. This was a low-key party and along with her birthday, we celebrated our cousin, Chase, 1, who now shares her birthday as well. Grace looked stunning and I loved the gardenia corsage my cousin made for her. Julianne also potted up plants with little flags and placed them all round the room. It was a lovely celebration. Happy Birthday, Grace!

The girls over at Banquet Atelier + Workshop put together these charming balloon lanterns. You can see the full instructions right here. I think these are so fun for a backyard summer party or even a wedding. I had the pleasure of meeting Tammy from Banquet when I was in Vancouver a few months ago and I am simply smitten with the work she and Sarah do.

When I came upon this article in Food and Wine about an outdoor feast in Russia, it immediately brought to mind all the stories my younger brother has told me about his time there. Michael has traveled to lots of cool places (Siberia, Georgia, Mongolia, Africa, etc) but has never once taken a photo, preferring to "remain in the moment instead" he claims. I rely on his descriptions but these photos match perfectly a garden feast he once described to me after he spent a summer in Russia living with farmers and traveling through the countryside.
