the sugar cube cookbook!

I am so excited to finally share a project I worked on last spring! As you know Portland is known for their food carts. It's not an exaggeration when I say they are infiltrating every neighborhood at this point and I am not complaining!  One of the most acclaimed food carts is The Sugar Cube, operated by Kir Jensen. This cart is devoted to sweets only. From delicious ginger drinks to salty chocolate brownies, The Sugar Cube will have you breaking all your diet rules in seconds. Kir has been writing a cookbook (with Danielle Centoni) for the last couple of years and last spring, my favorite photographer on the block, Lisa Warninger, was hired to photograph it. Lisa asked if I'd come along and provide some set and prop styling. 

We spent three busy days shooting the cookbook and additional days and weeks, prepping of course! Big thanks to the lovely Lauren Willhite for being my right-hand girl! It was one of the most intense shoots I've worked on, but definitely the most rewarding. I claim to love mostly savory food, but Kir's treats changed me. She's a master at mixing the sweet and savory and I love her for that. I probably gained 10 pounds on the shoot! The honey truffle popcorn recipe, pictured above, is my absolute favorite treat from the book, but I can attest that everything is amazing.

new styling work: rosanna spring/summer 2012

Last November, I traveled up to Seattle to style the Rosanna Inc. spring/summer catalog. They wanted the catalog to be filled with spring and summertime images of picnics and wildflowers, with their product as the focus, of course. I worked with their art director to interpret the vision.

John Granen is responsible for the lovely photography. My favorite photo might be the back cover, below! 

Rosanna Inc. was started by Rosanna Bowles, a Portland native, and she's a super cool business woman. You can read her story here. I love reading about how people started out. Very inspiring!

new styling work: tokketok

   
  

I had the pleasure of styling the photos for the new Tokketok website. Joke, the owner, is one of the most creative people I've ever met. I am a little confused why Martha hasn't snatched her up yet. The girl is an overflowing fountain of ideas. She creates the most clever branding and promotional ideas, among other things. I had the chance to style this shoot with Lisa Warninger  back in February. The fun part is this shoot was filmed by Framed so you can come along behind the scenes. The show is a feature all about Lisa so you'll learn a little bit about how she works as a photographer. I know a lot of you are curious about the behind the scenes on these shoots so here you go! tokketok letterpress shop

Have you seen the new Tokketok online shop? Tokketok's spare but playful style style reminds me of something you'd see in Japan though it's based right here in Portland! Tokkektok is what a chicken says in Dutch and for the website, Joke, the owner, recorded her son pronouncing it! So cute, right? Go have a looksie at the site for some paper eye candy!

 Lisa Warninger shot the photography for the whole website and I had pleasure of styling the sets. A big thank you to Joke, the designer behind Tokketok! She has such exquisite taste that it made our job too easy. Check out her adorable blog and projects right here. More from the shoot here.

new styling work: tokketok letterpress catalog

 

Here's a preview of the new Tokketok website + catalog that I styled (captured by my favorite photographer on the block, Lisa Warninger). The ceramic letters were created by Mitsy Sleurs. Joke, the designer behind Tokketok has such a great, modern + unexpected style (she writes a beautiful blog). Plus, she as a person is simply a treat! This was a really fun project. Look for the website to launch soon.
