flower of the week: buttercups

 

I love weeds! After I plucked these buttercups from the roadside, I stuffed them into this antique baby cup. They are really cheery to have around.

I picked these peonies up at a flower farm for $5 a bunch and then dropped them into a bunch of simple white containers.

flower of the week: viburnum

Viburnum (snowball trees) are great to arrange with because they are so lush and full. Just remember to give them a nice clean diagonal cut with clean shears and then a little vertical slice, just like you would with lilacs. For this arrangement, I mixed them with:

Green Hellebores

Lily of the Valley

Heuchara Blossoms

Blueberry Blossoms

Strawberry Blossoms + Greens

Lemon Balm

Sweet Woodruff

I placed it in a handmade cream-colored, ceramic container and I think it suits the arrangement perfectly.

flower of the week: sweet violets

 

As you know, I adore sweet violets. I am sorry that you've already seen these recently but I thought I'd share a few more pictures for my Flower of the Week series. Violets don't last long (3 days) but they are so worth it for their fragrance and charm. I like to leave their stems extra long for a wild look.

flower of the week: primroses

Like Ali, I am a fan of itsy bitsy things, especially, if they come in the form of a flower. This week, I bought two primrose plants at .95 cents a piece. I trimmed the flowers off and gathered them in a little egg cup from Ikea (I can't seem to find it on the website but it was at their store). I paired them with a few tete a tete daffodils ($3.99) in an old milk container. It's a bit of spring in the middle of January for cheapity cheap. I am loving it!

flower of the week: dutch tulips

No matter how small my budget is, I always make room for flowers. Each week, I put together a few casual vase-fulls around my apartment. During 2009, I'd like to share my arrangements with you and perhaps a few tips. I hope you enjoy them!

This week I had some tulips leftover from a New Years gathering. I cut them short and bunched them (10 stems together) into squatty vases. Since tulips grow in the vase, and these happen to be the type that I don't like long, I clip them a little bit every day to keep the arrangement short and round.
